TheĀ Frieze Ring is inspired by the Ancient Seven Wonder, the Temple of Artemis. The Greek temple was dedicated to Artemis, goddessĀ of the hunt, the wilderness and nature. Sitting above the pillars of the temple is a frieze, a decorative technique that was hugely popularĀ in Ancient Greek architecture. The frieze depicted on this ring is actually from the Parthenon, a building created by the infamous sculptor, Phidias, the man responsible for sculpting the Statue of Zeus.Ā Every year the Athenians held a procession in honour of their patron, Goddess Athena.Ā An example of thisĀ traditionĀ is depicted on the Frieze Ring which is oxidised for a vintage finish, and to highlight the detailing within the design.
